words by fireball, adapted by john keech
We drove Dave Smith's Porsche up through the Valle
cliff divers flew from spires of granite
Couldn't see the bottom till I hit it.
I think I told the angel that little story
No room at the inn that Christmas morning
We couldn't see the bottom till we hit it
           Such a view
We all locked hands and closed our eyes together
We couldn't see the bottom till we hit it
Now we hit the bottom... there's nowhere left to go.
Now we hit the bottom, no lower we can go.
We drove Dave's Porsche up the Valle
Divers flew from cliffs of granite
Didn't see the bottom till I hit it.
I told an angel that story
No room at the inn on Christmas
Didn't see the bottom till we hit it.
           Such a view
Locked hands and closed our eyes
Didn't see the bottom till we hit it.
We hit the bottom and there's nowhere left to go.
No lower... there's nowhere left to go

original:
Where the east fork of the Jemez River flows
Parked the car and waded upstream to the canyon
To the high rocks where everybody goes
Into narrow deep pools so far down
I scaled the rocks and found a private landing
Never wondered why nobody was around
Came up at me fast from down below
Felt a little high while I was falling
Till I hit and there was nowhere left to go
As we drank cheap beer on the train ride out of Prague
Cheap nectar never tasted any sweeter
As we watched the lights recede in the buzz and the fog
No miracles in strange and faroff lands
We woke up with broken wings in the dirty stable
We crashed hard and the angel slipped out of my hands
Came up from the sweet and murky deep
Felt a little high while we were falling
Now I'm lying here too broken to sleep
           Such great heights
           The fall catches fire
           Burns out into night
After savoring the vantage from the ledge
One small step for every soul upon the planet
One giant leap for everybody off the edge
Came up on us fast from down below
Felt a little high while we were falling
Till we hit and there was nowhere left to go
