The Night Country

for february 2010, fireball wrote a bunch of words and sent them out to farflung folks to put them to music. seventeen songs came back from that venture. fireball added a little bit to many of the songs, with mixed results. here is information about the songs.

These dead winter days....
are coming alive ---
Grey on black streets, flooded
with fireworks and light.
I'm hearing music again ---
but it's a different song.
It springs from the same place
it's been all along.

Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?
I figured the way it's been is the way that it always will be.
There's a shimmery newness on every ol' thing that I see.
Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?

Your mom brought you back here...
when you were thirteen.
You've been here all along
another thing I'd never seen.
Over coffee last week,
I thrilled to the church bell chime
Like so many songs I've been hearing
For the first time.

Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?
After all of these winters, I thought I knew how it would be.
Now all things familiar are painted with sweet mystery.
Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?

Now everyone's buzzing about you
with so much to say.
And I'm glad that I found you
even in such a roundabout way.
This whole new dimension
you've opened up to my eyes
I can't help but wonder
about the next big surprise.

Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?
I'd finally accepted and embraced the monotony.
This ol' world is new with this one stroke of serendipity.
Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?

Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?
You roll round once a year, but this year you've come differently.
From every direction the tingle of electricity.
Hey Hey, February, what are you doing to me?
