the toad & the quoll
      words by fireball
Johnny was a quoll.
He met his friend Kowari
Johnny and Kowari
The cane toad gave a little wink,
Johnny started feeling better,
One by one, the other cane toads
So if you eat the cane toad sausage,
Yes, if you eat the cane toad sausage,
music and performance by john kohler
      fairbanks, alaska
He was happy as can be.
Living large in the billabong
In a big old hollow tree.
One day he found a sausage,
Ate it up for brekkie,
And he went out to meet the day
down by the waterside
They took a dip and shook it off
until their fur was dried
Johnny started feeling sick
As the sun shone far and wide
Far and wide they ran off to play
Scampered down a dusty road,
Came upon a waterhole,
And started looking for a boat.
Johnny was feeling nauseous
When they met a young cane toad.
He hopped up with something to say.
And then croaked, 'Hello.'
Kowari said, 'Let's eat that thing.'
Johnny said, 'I don't know...
I'm just about to hurl my sausage...'
So Kowari dined solo.
And Johnny lost his brekkie along the way
But Kowari started turning blue.
And soon he just stopped breathing.
There was nothing Johnny could do.
The cane toad was dead inside his friend
And now his friend was dying, too.
Poor Johnny put on his funeral beret.
Hopped over to see
The carcass of Kowari
And to hear Johnny's eulogy.
From then on, Johnny and the cane toads
Lived in perfect harmony.
He never liked the taste of cane toad anyway.
And some foul ill descends:
Do not eat the cane toads!
Sing a song and be their friends.
And it blows out both ends:
Do not eat the cane toads!
Sing a song and be their friends.
