BRIDGES ARE FOR JUMPING


she said bridges are for crossing or for jumping
she said you can be a swan or a sheep
we looked out into a fog thick like i've never seen before or since
she said that it was deep

she said every bridge is waiting for a jumper
she said there are things that simply must be done
i couldn't see the bottom and i could barely see her lips move
as she said sometimes it's fun

    the fall was longer than the lengths we travelled
    all our makeshift safety cords unravelled
    when we made it down we found the ground was not so soft
    she said we worked hard to build the bridge between us now i'm jumping off

she said the height will make the mind play tricks against us

we looked down off that edge that we had somehow engineered
